ABOUT JANINE

Janine (Ruege) Hudson was born in Mankato, Minnesota.   After spending some time in foster care, Janine moved out on her own at the tender age of 15.  She graduated from Mankato West High School in 1984.  Janine moved to Sioux City, Iowa with her new husband later that year.

While in Iowa, Janine attended Briar Cliff College and became a licensed foster parent.  After her divorce, the single mother of two moved back to Mankato and graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Parent Education, Family Life Education, and Consumer Homemaking from Mankato State University in 1991.  Janine also obtained a license in Home Economics Education.

Janine has spent most of her career in civil service and firmly believes government's role is  to provide bootstraps to those who don't have any.  In 1995, Janine was offered a position as a Wadena County Family-Based Service Provider.  She and her growing family lived in Wadena, MN  until 2008, when Janine moved to Eagan to be closer to her adult children and extended family.  Janine accepted a position as a Housing Coordinator for the Family Place Homeless Shelter in St. Paul.  There, she worked with homeless families to find affordable housing and get back on their feet.  When the Family Place's grant expired, Janine decided she was ready for a new challenge, got her Insurance Producers License, and began working for a State Farm agent.

Although working in the insurance industry was rewarding, Janine's passion for helping people get the assistance they need eventually lead her back to working in county services.  Janine has worked for Hennepin County since 2013.

Janine has five wonderful children: Jessica, Carl (Abby), Jennifer, David, and James. She has a grandson, Aiden, and a granddaughter, Greta.

Her two youngest sons are Eagan High School graduates and her son, David, is a former U.S. Marine.

Janine is a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagan where she sings in the choir.  She is also an active volunteer for her youngest son's boy scout troops.
